What is Counselling?

Counselling is an interpersonal process involving therapeutic (helpful) conversations with an experienced counsellor. This experience is very different to having a conversation with a friend or family member. Talking in this way is helpful in itself and involves using the therapeutic relationship with the counsellor to help you. When we talk about our lives, we are weaving stories about ourselves and about our relationships with others. Exploring these stories in counselling can bring about new understandings, new perspectives, and opportunities for change. It also enables the development of more flexible ways of thinking about the experiences with which you are having difficulties. Exploring your emotions and emotional agility is involved in counselling; many people have difficulty in experiencing their emotions and hence see some emotions as "difficult" and want to push them away. In counselling with me, you would be helped to use your emotions as the natural resources that make up part of who you are as a whole person.

So if you want to work with a Counsellor/Therapist who appreciates all aspects of life - mental and social, biological and emotional, the body as well as the mind, and the spiritual - and who will help you to understand and help yourself, then contact me.

If you are experiencing any of the problems listed in the "Home" section, engaging in counselling would enable you to explore what is contributing to a particular problem at the emotional, cognitive, behavioural, and relational levels of your life.

What Benefits can be Expected?

Engaging with counselling often leads to change or considering change. However, you will always be in charge of the changes that you want to make or not make. Our relationship with change can be delicately balanced. As your Counsellor, I would be working at your pace, encouraging you to be more aware of your strengths and resources, and helping you to develop more choices about the way you want your life to be. Because I would be drawing upon several different counselling and psychotherapy approaches, and theoretical backgrounds, I will be able to tailor the counselling to your individual needs and wants. I work in a collaborative manner and would be encouraging you to give me feedback on how we were working together.
